RRRISE Catalyst Initiatives: Sustainable Forestry
Working Lands and Blue Economy
This Catalyst initiative showcases the diverse range of natural resource-based economic development opportunities RRRISE is supporting across the region.
The Timber and Workforce Development Initiative includes three projects—Career Pathways: Fire, Forest, Fish & Facilities; Connecting Mass Timber to Regional Housing and Building Needs; and Developing a Climate Forward Workforce and Innovation Pipeline for Forest and Community Resilience—to address the Redwood Region's housing needs while preserving cultural heritage. By combining Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) with modern practices, this initiative creates economic opportunities through sustainable wood products, prefabricated housing solutions, and carbon markets while building community resilience, supporting Tribal traditions, and advancing California's climate goals.
